Club History

History? Defined as events of the past. History is created mainly by people, and by nature. The interesting and exciting history of The Forest was started by the foresightedness of David Swor and his associates. Once opened, The Forest Members and its residents became the dominating factor in molding The Forest history. Fortunately the Members of The Forest, whether golfers, or tennis players, or social members were friendly, open and considerate. They were more than just people. They were dedicated, somewhat a select group, that wanted enjoyment and the nice things of life, along with friendship and feeling.

The Forest was the first gated community in Fort Myers. It was established in 1979 and members became owners and operators in 1990. The club today is recognized in the Southwest Florida community as the leading private, member-owned country club.

The golf courses’ design, and improvements through the years, are credited to noteworthy architects’ Gordy Lewis, Bill Maddox, Gene Bates, and Chip Powell.
